Wine tasting in Manarola

Local farmers have been producing wine in this part of the Italian Riviera, on the terraced vineyards, for a thousand years. Local wine was popular already in the middle ages, enjoyed in other parts of Italy and in Western Europe, but the five villages became famous worldwide in the second part of the 20th century, after becoming a UNESCO world heritage site.

No travel to these colourful fishing villages can be complete without a walk in a vineyard or a wine tasting in a local bar. If you only have a short time in the Cinque Terre villages or you don't feel fit enough to visit the vineyards, I recommend the following wine tastings, which can be easily reached in the center of Manarola or Monterosso.

Wine tasting in Manarola

One of the best places to taste the wines of the Cinque Terre National Park is an ancient wine cellar. The one where we would like to welcome you is located in the centre of Manarola, near the little harbour. It has been completely renovated and is now a Bar-Enoteca, a wonderful place where people meet, drink wine, enjoy good music (sometimes great live Jazz) and nice food.

You will have a tasting of a Cinque Terre white wine DOC, a tasting of a red wine ITG produced in the Cinque Terre and a tasting of the famous Sciacchetrà, our sweet wine. The wines will be accompanied by local snacks.

  • Available every day from March 15 to December 31, except Thursdays.
  • Meeting in Manarola.
  • Duration: 1 hour in the afternoon, at 5:00PM.
  • Price: 24 EUR/person.
  • Minimum 2, maximum 16 participants.
  • In English or Italian.

Price includes: wine tasting of 3 different Cinque Terre wines (0.1 L per wine) and some local snacks like cheese, salted anchovies or crostini with pesto.

Reviews

Dear Tamara! Thank you for your email. Thinking back to our time in Cinque Terre brings a smile to my face. I would very much love to return again & again. I love the Cinque Terre and especially the towns of Vernazza and Manarola. My friend and I made it to the wine tasting in Manarola following the given directions very easily. The experience was wonderful. We were greeted by a very nice lady who was helping her son since he was caught in some traffic. During the delay to start the actual "tasting" with her son, we were treated very warmly and given some wine and small snacks to enjoy. Despite having very little English (and me having very little Italian), we managed to learn from this nice lady. Then her son came to give us more details and round out our experience. The wine was delicious. The whole experience was lovely. We would recommend to others. We would love to return for the wine and also the homemade pesto which was the best ever! Thank you for offering this experience on your website. We easily made the reservation and paid online. Very helpful. Grazie mille! Warm regards,
Heidi
Tamara, We had a wonderful evening of wine tasting with Gabriele's wine cellar. We brought our group of 11 people to Manarola and experienced wine tasting like never before. Gabriele was so knowledgeable about the different wines. The snacks that were paired with the wines were more like a light dinner by the time the wine tasting was over. Thank you so much for such a delightful evening!

Wine tasting in Monterosso

Wine tasting in Monterosso

In Monterosso, we would like to offer you a tasting of wines made by winemakers only from Monterosso. You will taste a conventionally-made Cinque Terre DOC white wine, a naturally- and traditionally-made local white wine and a Sciacchetrà.

Through this tasting, we want to show you how in a limited area like the Cinque Terre completely different wines and philosophies of wine making can develop. You will learn more about the new generation of Cinque Terre wine makers and the renaissance of traditional wine making. The tasting will be accompanied by some crostini, focaccia, salami and some cantucci with the Sciacchetrà.

  • Available every day from March 15 to January 7.
  • Meeting in Monterosso.
  • Duration: 1 hour, between 11:00AM and 7:00PM.
  • Price: 24 EUR/person.
  • Minimum 2, maximum 50 participants.
  • In English or Italian.

Price includes: wine tasting of 3 different wines (0.1 L per wine) and some local snacks like crostini, focaccia, salami and cantucci.

If you feel fit enough for a walking tour around the Cinque Terre vineyards, you should do a wine tour instead, as grapes here are grown in amazing locations. This way you will enjoy stunning views, understand the heroic wine making of the Cinque Terre, meet the wine grower and listen to his stories. Of course, you also get to taste the wines.

I recommend the following wine tours, you can book all of them online, directly on my website.

If you are also interested in gastronomy, check out a selection of Cinque Terre cooking classes and pesto courses on my "Food and wine" tour page.
